Sometimes the decision to get into the sugar bowl is inherently selfishly motivated. It starts with identifying a need that you have. For SBs, it’s typically a desire to get some financial help or perhaps to network with more established men, or means of leaving behind immature dating riff-raff. So you’ve decided to try out the sugar baby lifestyle now what? If all of your past relationships have been more of the traditional nature, it might seem a little overwhelming to step into the world of sugar dating. What should (and shouldn’t) an aspiring sugar baby do on a first date?
Tips for Aspiring Sugar Baby
1. Don’t Come off Needy
Yes, your rent is due and college tuition has you stressed out in a big way, but if this is all you project to a POT, it can easily put him in a defensive position. When someone has their guard up, it’s difficult for the generosity to flow. Rather than reminding your POT about financial woes or asking when you’re getting your next bag, ask him how his day was. Maybe send him an email with an article about something related to his business or interest. Chances are he already read the information, but it shows that you are trying to connect with him and get on the same page. It shows that you understand what is important to him and that his success is important to you.
2. Know and Respect Your Comfort Level
If you’re not comfortable doing something, then don’t do it under any circumstances. A sugar baby should never compromise her values, beliefs, morals, or ideas just to make a man happy, and if he persistently tries to pressure you into doing something you’re not comfortable with, it’s time to cut him loose. A good example is sex; a lot of sugar babies choose to never sleep with their sugar daddy, and that’s made clear from the onset. As a sugar baby, you should always retain some sense of control in the relationship, no matter how much older or richer he is. If you don’t want to do something, stick to your guns and don’t let anyone else dictate what you will and won’t do as a sugar baby.
3. Be Appreciative
When you’re a sugar baby, it’s kind of assumed that you’ll be pampered and spoiled—sugar daddies understand that that’s part of the deal. But that doesn’t mean you should take it for granted. It’s still important to be grateful as a sugar baby and appreciate what he gives and does for you. This doesn’t necessarily mean you have to earn the gifts and extra spending money, but refrain from coming across as greedy or entitled; not only is it an unattractive quality in a sugar baby—or any woman, for that matter—but it’s demeaning and insulting to him.
